The Ethical Practices Board is a three-member body serving a three-year term. Its mission is to advance the City of Minneapolis’ commitment to ethical, transparent, and accountable governance through impartial and fair execution of its powers and duties while fostering compliance with the letter and spirit of the Code of Ethics.

Responsibilities Include:

• Reviewing ethics complaints within its jurisdiction.
• Providing advisory opinions as requested.
• Submitting annual reports and work plans to the City of Minneapolis Mayor and City Council.
• Recommending changes to the text of the Minneapolis Code of Ethics.

Board members must be residents of the City of Minneapolis. Successful members are analytical and have experience or skills with fact-finding and legislative drafting.

Members are appointed by a committee consisting of the Chief Judge of Hennepin County District Court, the Dean of the University of Minnesota Law School, and the Dean of the University of St. Thomas School of Law.

Meetings are held every other month at 3:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday starting in January. The Board may hold special meetings as needed. Regular attendance and active participation in the Board’s work is an essential responsibility for all members. In agreeing to serve, Board members make a commitment to put in the necessary time and energy to prepare and participate fully in the work of the Board.
